PRIMARY DUTY: The School of Health Science and Wellness is seeking candidates to serve as adjunct instructor in graduate online programs associated with Healthcare Management. The position requires the ability to effectively deliver online curriculum in a manner that actively engages students, ensures academic rigor, and provides timely communication and feedback. Specific teaching assignments will be determined based on the expertise of the candidate. Immediate course needs include Healthcare Delivery Systems, Healthcare Finance, and Trends and Issues in Healthcare Management. Adjunct instructors will be expected to attend virtual meetings with the program faculty and staff monthly or as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Develop and teach courses within the on-line healthcare management curriculum as assigned. 
  2. Develop course syllabi, lesson plans, and associated materials for effective on-line delivery. 
  3. Effectively utilize and manage on-line course delivery systems, tools, and techniques. 
  4. Ensure the continuous improvement of instruction through the identification and implementation of best practices. 
  5. Model effective oral and written communication that engages students, provides clarity, and improves student learning.
  6. Virtually attend program meetings with the program director and faculty as requested. 
  7. Ensure the content of course materials and assessment tools correspond with course and program learning outcomes. 
  8. Aid in the update of a systematic program evaluation, which outline program outcomes and competencies. 
  9. Develop effective relationships with faculty, students, and partner agencies. 
  10. Ensure that student records are gathered and maintained as required and in a manner that ensures confidentiality and FERPA compliance. 
  11. Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics and perform other administrative duties as assigned. 
  12. Attend advisory committee meetings when available.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Terminal Degree in Healthcare Management or Healthcare related field (PhD, DNP, etc.)

Experience: At least two years of experience in an academic healthcare management environment as an instructor with at least one year of experience teaching on-line courses. At least five years of managerial or administrative experience in the healthcare field.

Skills: Proficient in Canvas learning management system (LMS) and other online learning technologies; exceptional written and verbal communication, exceptional time management and organizational skills. 

ADJUNCT GRADUATE FACULTY MUST HAVE:

  1. At least 60 hours of graduate work including 18 hours in subfield related to that course.
  2. For non-required or elective courses, when faculty are not available and when the individual’s record of professional experience, specialized graduate work and honors and/or awards support their competence, an individual with a minimum of a master’s degree may be approved.
  3. Suitable experience which will be documented in the recommendation for appointment form for review by Graduate Council and Associate Provost of Graduate Studies and Special Programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The majority of work will be conducted in the online arena; however, the faculty member will be expected to meet with students at times that are conducive to their schedule using zoom web conferencing or phone. The faculty member’s work environment should be conducive to productivity and student privacy.

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Laptop or Desktop computer, Canvas LMS, Zoom web conferencing, and other on-line learning technologies 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
