Job Description 

General Description:

This position serves as the American Culture and Language Institute (ACLI) Assistant for the NOVA Workforce division. The overall responsibility of the ACLI Assistant is to assist and support the implementation of non-credit English as a Second Language (ESL) programs for multiple programs and locations.

Duties and Tasks:

  • Assisting in the coordination and management of ESL programs at multiple locations
  • Assisting students in profile creation, advising where necessary
  • Supporting ESL instructors with technology and program materials
  • Ensuring program procedures and policies meet established guidelines
  • Verifying student registration and managing student waitlists in WES
  • Performing other duties as assigned for the purpose of meeting the ongoing needs of NOVA Workforce

Special AssignmentsMay be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA’s/Required QualificationsKSAs:

  • Knowledge of ESL programming at Community Colleges or Adult Education providers
  • Ability to build and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with instructors, staff, and administrators
  • Excellent communication skills, group facilitation, and conflict resolution
  • Excellent organizational skills and great attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at once
  • Ability to be flexible and work in a high-stress diverse environment
  • Availability to work standard business hours, but also occasional evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of other cultures

Required Qualiifcations:

  • Experience in assisting the management of ESL (English as a Second Langauage) programs.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working with diverse population.
  • Administrative and customer services (in-person, email, and telephone) experience.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience in teaching ESL
  • Experience in PeopleSoft Student Information System (SIS); Workforce Enterprise System (WES); G-Suite (Google docs, sheets, etc.), Canvas or similar systems
  • Experience working in administrative or operations support at a community college setting or in higher education
  • Experience interpreting and applying NOVA college policies to help students with course and college questions.
