Reporting to : Executive Director

Location : Geneva, Switzerland

Type of contract : 80 -100%, fixed-term starting June 2025 (negotiable); 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.

Background

Faced with the under-prioritisation and underfunding of education in emergencies (EiE), and given the magnitude of the challenge, members of the Geneva Global Hub for Education in Emergencies (EiE Hub) come together to form a strong alliance of diverse states and organisations to step up visibility, political and operational commitment, and funding for EiE. The EiE Hub is a physical and virtual platform that catalyses joint action among its members, and increases collaboration with other sectors to prioritise EiE. Together the EiE Hub members work to create change internationally, increase country-level impact, and foster political, financial and operational commitments for EiE.

Objective

The Advocacy and Public Information Officer will support the EiE Hub’s strategic advocacy, public information, and media engagement, to elevate the visibility of EiE, ensuring it remains a global priority. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing advocacy and public information strategies, managing digital communications and the EiE Hub website, media outreach, and strengthening engagement with key stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Advocacy and campaigns

  • Support the design and implementation of advocacy strategies to influence global policies and decision-making on EiE.
  • Develop advocacy materials, including briefs, and policy papers.
  • Contribute to global advocacy campaigns and events, working with partners to maximise impact.
  • Track and analyse policy developments, preparing timely updates and recommendations.

Stakeholder engagement and coordination

  • Collaborate with EiE Hub members, UN agencies, NGOs, and donors to drive collective advocacy and communication efforts.
  • Represent the EiE Hub in relevant coordination meetings.
  • Support visibility and engagement through tailored materials and events.

Strategic communications and public information

  • Coordinate closely with members partners to align messaging and amplify joint initiatives.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to enhance the visibility of the EiE Hub’s work.
  • Draft, edit, and oversee the production of key materials, including press releases, op-eds, newsletters, social media toolkits, reports, digital content, and the annual progress report.
  • Manage the EiE Hub’s website and social media platforms, ensuring timely and impactful content.

Media relations

  • Engage with national and international media to generate coverage on EiE.
  • Support high-level engagement, organise interviews, and media communications.
  • Maintain and expand a network of journalists covering humanitarian, education, and policy issues.
  • Prepare talking points and key messages for media engagements.

Qualifications and experience

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in international relations, political science, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five to seven years of demonstrated experience in advocacy or public information in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective advocacy strategies and campaigns.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to translate complex material and data into coherent narratives that resonate with policymakers, peers and the public.
  • Strong understanding of the global humanitarian and education in emergencies landscape, including key stakeholders and policy frameworks.
  • Experience working with media, managing digital communications, and writing press materials.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, InDesign, Canva, Mailchimp, and similar tools.
  • Ability to efficiently update and manage the institutional website (Drupal) and social media platforms.
  • Proficiency in English and French.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
