The University of Southern California Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (USC Mann) is seeking candidates for a full-time, 12-month calendar, non-tenure track faculty appointment in the Titus Family Department of Clinical Pharmacy. The successful candidate will be appointed as Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy (Teaching Track) and serve as the Director of Experiential Assessment, with the specific rank determined based on prior academic experience and demonstrated success. The Teaching Track faculty position combines administrative and teaching/mentoring duties to total at least 80% of USC activities, with the remaining 20% towards excellence in service and scholarship. Scholarly activities and university service are important contributions for the well-rounded faculty candidate’s recruitment and success.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Director of Professional Experience Programs, the Director of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences, and the Assistant Dean for Assessment to design, enhance, implement, and oversee experiential assessment strategies at USC Mann. They will also collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and external preceptors and partners to align experiential assessment plans for enhancing the quality of student experiences and success in the program. Teaching responsibilities may include coordination of experiential related topics and courses, or other areas assigned within the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum. Most of the responsibilities for the position would be performed on the USC Health Sciences campus with some travel as required.

Specific responsibilities include:

Developing and executing the experiential education assessment strategic plan. Designing assessment methods that effectively evaluate experiential learning outcomes. Overseeing the collection and analysis of assessment data to measure effectiveness of experiential assessment initiatives and propose strategies for improvement. Supervising the collection and analysis of assessment data to measure student achievement and progress in the curriculum and provide guidance for personal and professional development. Exploring, selecting, and using assessment tools and resources that support experiential assessment goals, ensuring reliability and validity of program measures. Fostering a culture of assessment by providing training and development opportunities for internal and external stakeholders. Establishing quality assurance processes to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of assessment data management and practices. Preparing and presenting comprehensive reports on assessment findings, trends, and recommendations for diverse stakeholders. Managing the experiential program syllabus creation and review process. Revising experiential remediation policies and procedures. Engaging with preceptors and students at practice sites for performance feedback and evaluation. Ensuring compliance with ACPE accreditation standards and requirements related to experiential curricular assessment.

Required Qualifications, Credentials and Experience

Applicants must have a PharmD degree and California licensure (or eligibility for licensure with passing the state board exam at the first available sitting). Candidates with prior experience in academia, including experiential education, assessment, teaching, precepting, and scholarship; along with proven excellence, leadership, knowledge, and skills to collaborate with partners and represent pharmacy externally will be given priority.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; analytical skills with the ability to interpret and communicate complex data effectively; ability to multitask, problem solve and collaborate with other team members; and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles are a must.

Preferred experiences include using assessment tools and technologies, such as learning management systems, data analytics software, and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated expertise is the data organization, display, and presentation of assessment information using these technolofies is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The University of Southern California offers a competitive salary within an academic environment based on the candidate’s experience and accomplishments. The position does not lead to consideration for tenure. Merit review is conducted annually from which salary enhancements are decided. Re-appointment and promotion within the teaching track are based on performance assessment longitudinally via administrative review, with department evaluation, dossier submission and internal/external review. The annual base salary range for this position is $130,000 – $170,000.
