The Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Middle East politics with expertise on Iran. We seek a professor with expertise in Middle East politics and the ability to teach courses on Iran and U.S.-Iran relations. The successful candidate also will be able to teach courses on the international relations of the Middle East. The initial contract period will begin as early as Fall 2025 and be for three academic years, with the potential for renewal. This is a full-time, specialized service (non-tenure track) faculty position.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The effort breakdown for the position is 75 percent teaching and 25 percent service. The successful candidate will offer five courses a year that are predominantly for undergraduates and can include different aspects of modern Iranian politics, contemporary Iranian society and culture, and the international relations of the Middle East. Service will involve working with the Director of the Institute for Middle East Studies on organizing public lectures and other events.

Qualifications

Applicants must have excellent teaching skills as demonstrated by student evaluations, experience in teaching undergraduate students, and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in the classroom. They must hold a doctorate or equivalent degree in International Relations, International Security, Political Science, or a related field by date of appointment; ABD applicants will be considered but must complete all requirements for the doctorate by date of appointment. Fluency in Persian is required.

Advertised Salary: $90,000 – $125,000
