Position Summary

Indiana University School of Medicine Division of Plastic Surgery is seeking a hand and upper extremity surgeon to support our primary Adult Academic Health Center (including a Level 1 Trauma Center) and our Regional Academic Health Center in Bloomington, IN. The position involves an ideal mixture of upper extremity trauma, peripheral nerve, and elective hand and upper extremity cases and may also include backup plastic surgery support as needed. Appointment on the clinical or tenure track and level to be determined by qualifications and experience. Our faculty work in clinical environments and on research activities to help improve patient care and teach the next generation of plastic surgeons.

This is a full-time position that will work collaboratively with 20 faculty members and 11 advanced practice providers covering 9 hospitals and 5 ambulatory surgery centers in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The division encompasses a large variety of general plastic and reconstructive surgery for pediatric and adult patients and includes: microsurgery, hand surgery, breast reconstruction, general oncological reconstruction, trauma, gender affirming surgery, peripheral nerve, cosmetic surgery along with the adult and children’s burn units. Services specific to the Riley Children’s Hospital include the surgical management of pediatric plastic surgery conditions, malformations, anomalies and deformities, and craniofacial surgery. The division also offers 20 residency and 5 fellowship positions; including fellowships in burn, hand surgery, and cleft and craniofacial surgery. The plastic surgery division boasts a strong and growing NIH-funded research program.

Basic Qualifications

Must be board-certified, or in the process of certification and must have completed an ACGME – approved fellowship in hand surgery with a subspecialty certificate or plans to seek a subspecialty certificate in surgery of the hand (previously CAQ Hand). Additionally, candidates must be interested in educating both residents and fellows and have an interest in research and administration. Excellent communication skills and interest in working in a collaborative/team-oriented environment are essential.
