The School of Public Health invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, fixed-term, Assistant or Associate Professor of Teaching: Health Care Administration Degree Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head.

Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; however, higher rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Teaching (POT) will teach and provide leadership for new fully online (E-campus) health care administration (HCA) undergraduate degree, which will begin enrolling students in 2025. The POT will also teach and participate in the undergraduate and graduate public health programs in the College of Health, advise and mentor graduate students, hold responsibility for scholarly/research work, and provide service to the Program, School, College and University in the form of committee work and participation in faculty meetings. This individual will be an active member of the program and school; this person will be student-centric in their work and enthusiastically participate in the school community.

This position will serve a new degree that will be starting Fall 2025. The latest start date is 9/16/2025, however, an earlier start date is negotiable.

Key Responsibilities

75% – Teaching and Advising

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in health care administration and in the public health curriculum, both on campus and online, as assigned.
  • Develop course materials and contribute to curriculum design, as assigned.
  • Serve as program director for the new Ecampus HCA undergraduate degree, including responsibility for ensuring program quality and coordinate with the school’s Associate Director of Academic Programs (ADAP) and public health undergraduate program director (PD) on curriculum and scheduling.
  • Lead expansion of the HCA degree to an accredited master’s degree in HCA
  • Serve as Member or Chair of graduate student committees.
  • Serve as the primary graduate student advisor for Master’s level students.
  • Conduct teaching and mentoring in ways that align with the OSU Quality Teaching Framework

15% – Research

  • Develop and maintain a research program focused on pedagogy or relevant scholarship, depending on unit needs
  • Disseminate research results by publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings
  • Advance the College’s and University’s research agenda in the area of pedagogy and conduct scholarly activity using equitable and inclusive practices

10% – Service:

  • Provide service to the Program, School, College, and University in the form of committee work and participation in faculty meetings.
  • Actively participate in program, school and college community
  • Be responsive to and contribute to OSU initiatives for promoting student success and enhancing diversity at OSU.

What You Will Need

Required Qualifications for Ranks for Assistant Professor of Teaching and Associate Professor of Teaching:

  • Doctoral degree in Health Care Management, Health Care Administration or closely related field
  • Experience teaching in health care administration and health care management or closely related field in university and/or work settings to students and/or professionals with varying levels of academic preparation and experience.
  • Prior online/Ecampus teaching and curricular development experience.
  • Evidence of ability to promote learning and success of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated potential to engage in and develop scholarly work.

Additional Qualifications for the Rank of Associate Professor of Teaching:

  • Sustained record of exceptional teaching, advising and service, at the college- or university level, as evidenced by student evaluations of teaching.
  • Experience in online and on campus course development.
  • Sustained record of scholarship as evidenced by grant/contract applications and awards, publications and presentations at local, regional, and national forums

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate health care administration or health care management courses to students in Public Health and the Human Sciences, using both in-person and online modalities.
  • Interest in developing and teaching new undergraduate and graduate courses in HCA and Public Health.
  • Industry experience in health care administration
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion.
  • Evidence of potential for effective service to the university and profession.
