The UW School of Dentistry is a 12-month service school. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) is seeking a full-time faculty member for an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor – Teaching track appointment for Oral Pathology (the position is not eligible for tenure). The Department of OMS resides at the School of Dentistry, with clinical affiliations at the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC), Harborview Medical Center (HMC), Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH), Puget Sound VA Hospital, and Northwest and Swedish Hospitals.

The department seeks to hire a full-time faculty member who will provide predoctoral and graduate instruction in Oral Pathology, and direct and provide clinical laboratory services as a faculty clinician. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in the department’s goals of academic service, work in a teaching environment, collaborate in a dialectic culture, and observe evidence-based clinical practices. The anticipated start date for this position is June 1, 2023.

The successful applicant – 

  • will teach predoctoral and graduate courses in Oral Pathology, including designing and delivering evidence-based teaching materials and content for lectures to students.
  • will be expected to evaluate student learning within curriculum assessment requirements in a university setting
  • will provide oral pathology biopsy services in a clinical laboratory setting, including examination of tissue samples, interpreting results of testing, and diagnosing from microscopic, biochemical, and other test results to support treatments for oral health conditions.
  • will be expected to innovate and create teaching/research/service models incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, completion of a residency program in a CODA-accredited dental specialty residency in Oral Medicine and Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a secondary degree in a related field.

The base salary range for this position will be $10,000 – $18,334 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

Other compensation associated with this position may derive from providing pathology services. 

Qualifications

  • DMD/DDS degree from an American Dental Association-accredited institution or foreign equivalent.
  • Must be board certified in oral pathology, or board eligible.
  • Current Washington state dental license (or eligibility to acquire one, or a Washington state faculty license by the time of employment)
  • Must demonstrate teaching ability either through an extensive record of teaching experience in the discipline or through a record of excellence in teaching.
