Position Summary
The Assistant Director will focus on educational applications of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) and other innovative technologies in higher education and provide support and guidance to projects and programs that extend and enhance the CTL’s portfolio of work advancing the educational mission of Washington University.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop evidence-based programming focused on the effective and ethical use of generative AI and AI-assisted writing tools. Build and sustain learning communities of faculty who will be implementing GAI-related curricular innovations in their classes.
- Engage with schools and departments to foster collegial conversations on innovative technologies in their academic and professional contexts. Provide consultation support for faculty, graduate students, and staff on effective and responsible integration of innovative technologies into existing courses and new educational experiences.
- Create and curate learning materials, tutorials, and resources that guide both faculty and students in understanding generative AI and other innovative technologies.
- Research and recommend cutting-edge AI tools and platforms that align with the institution’s pedagogical goals and enhance student learning outcomes. Stay current on the latest advancements in technology and education, attending conferences, workshops, and online communities to bring fresh insights to the university.
- Collaborate with the IT department and technology specialists to ensure the integration, security, accessibility, and scalability of solutions across university-supported learning environments, particularly within Canvas and other LMSs. Develop and manage learning analytics initiatives to enhance teaching and learning support and to make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range
$58,400.00 – $99,700.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
