We are a federally recognized Hispanic Serving Institution.The Department of Special Education within the Sanford College of Education (SCOE) at National University invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in supporting students with extensive academic, behavioral, and/or intellectual needs. The rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.The successful candidate will demonstrate, or have the potential for, excellence in teaching and scholarship in their field, along with a strong commitment to serving our diverse adult student body. We are looking for a candidate who has teaching experience in special education teacher preparation, online higher education, the field of special education, and English language development within the K-graduation or through age 21 education system. We are looking for a candidate who has leadership experience as a program director or a similar role in teacher preparation.This is a remote position that involves close collaboration with faculty and administration to enhance program quality, foster student engagement, and promote student success. We are particularly interested in candidates who can bring innovative strategies and perspectives to our programs, especially in areas such as Inclusive Practices, Technology, Assessment, and Program Development.Essential Functions:Candidates will be evaluated for their level of proficiency and potential (for excellence) in teaching, scholarship, and service. The main expectations of this position include:Teaching

  • Teach and develop online or onsite courses in the following areas: extensive support needs, bachelor and master levels
  • Maintain pedagogical and subject matter expertise in the instructor’s field.
  • Create an inclusive and positive learning environment for diverse learners.
  • Ensure course and program practices align with compliance and accreditation standards.
  • Adhere to the National University’s academic integrity policy.

Scholarship

  • Maintain a productive scholarship agenda suitable to a teaching university.
  • Engage in scholarly activities to maintain professional growth.
  • Participate in professional development as outlined in faculty policies.

Service

  • Participate in curriculum oversight, shared governance, and the student experience.
  • Serve on committees at the program, department, school, college or/and university level and engage in community activities that promote program outreach and university goals.
  • Participate in program meetings and advisory boards to integrate best practices and strategic initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:Education & Experience

  • Terminal degree (Ed.D., Ph.D.) in Special Education or related discipline required; Special Education degree preferred.
  • Experience teaching in a K-graduation or through age 21 special education setting required.
  • Specialization (credential or experience) in extensive support needs for students with learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders and/or intellectual disabilities preferred.
  • Experience in academic program administration, including accreditation (if applicable), developing, and teaching program courses preferred.
  • Experience in grant writing and grant administration preferred.
