FACULTY POSITION: DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY, DIVISION OF CARDIAC SURGERY

The University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking candidates to join the full-time faculty of the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the rank of Assistant Professor. This role is comprehensive and requires individuals who are board-certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery or have completed training in an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery residency or fellowship program. Responsibilities will include establishing a broad Cardiac Surgery practice at the University of Maryland Medical Center, conducting independent clinical or laboratory research, providing care to complex cardiac surgery patients at the Downtown Campus, contributing to the comprehensive growth of cardiac surgery throughout the Medical System, and educating medical students, surgery residents, and fellows. We are looking for candidates who have a clear plan for clinical practice building, academic development, and scholarly activity that is consistent with the mission of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. 

Faculty will have the privilege and responsibility of teaching all facets of cardiac surgery to integrated thoracic surgery trainees. They will expand their research and scholarly activities to achieve national and international recognition as they advance the field. The University of Maryland is a world-renowned research institution that provides a superb academic foundation for basic, clinical, and translational research. Robust opportunities exist to enhance the Division’s existing research portfolio through collaboration with various researchers within the Department of Surgery and across the University. About the Division: The Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine includes 10 clinical faculty providing cardiac surgery services at three locations and is the market leader in cardiac surgical care in the State of Maryland. The Division sponsors a mature, integrated 6-year Cardiothoracic Training program and a Cardiothoracic Fellowship. The Division is home to several NIH-funded surgeon-scientists, has a Clinical Research Unit with over 40 prospectively enrolling clinical trials, and is a site for the NHLBI-sponsored Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network.
