Position Summary
The Department of Criminology at Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications from qualified individuals for an Assistant Professor 1-year limited term appointment (LTA). The Department of Criminology is located on Laurier’s Brantford Campus, offering Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Criminology. We are seeking a qualified candidate with a history of teaching excellence to join our department. Application packages should demonstrate:
1. Skills development and experiences applying effective pedagogical practices for both large and small classes at the undergraduate level;
2. The capacity to effectively teach our department’s introductory courses (Introduction to Criminology, and Introduction to the Criminal Justice System) as well as introductory and advanced criminological theory courses;
3. The ability to develop and instruct a new senior-level undergraduate course in one of the following fields: politics of crime; racialization, racism, and the criminal justice system; ethics in criminal justice practice; abolitionism and the criminal-legal system; or the impact of social media on crime and justice.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Socio-Legal studies, or a similar discipline where a direct connection to the focus of our department can be made; PhD candidates who are ABD will also be considered.

The appointment will begin September 1, 2025 and conclude August 31, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. LTA faculty members teach five one-term courses annually.

3. One writing sample, such as a recent publication (previous 3 years) or work in progress;
4. A teaching dossier, including but not limited to i) a statement of teaching philosophy, ii) teaching evaluations, and iii) a previous or proposed course syllabus for a course that the candidate has recently taught or could teach in the future;
