Responsibilities:
The Department of Indigenous Studies at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time Probationary (tenure-track) Assistant Professor. The appointment has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. Review of applications will begin on February 24, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position will hold a Ph.D. in Indigenous Studies or a related field, demonstrate a commitment to working with Indigenous individuals and organizations, and have experience in course development and delivery.
Candidates close to completing their doctoral degree may be considered for a term position at the rank of Lecturer, with the potential to transition to a probationary appointment as an Assistant Professor upon completion of their degree.
The applicant must possess and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, along with personal and academic integrity. The candidate should also be prepared to teach courses in Indigenous Studies that draw from fields including, but not limited to, history, literature, anthropology, sociology, linguistics, arts, law, music or governance, or a related area.
Responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate teaching in one or more delivery modes, including in-person instruction, supervision, service-related activities, and a commitment to outstanding, innovative research. The standard weighting of responsibilities for full-time equivalent faculty members in the Faculty of Arts is 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% service. The normal teaching load is 12 credit hours or 4 courses per year (with teaching release for new faculty in the first 2 years).
