Position Details

The Department of English and Writing within the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Ecocriticism or Environmental Humanities to begin in August 2024.

We seek a candidate who attends to environmental issues in a range of texts and contexts, with scholarship and teaching experience in environmental justice, animal studies, and/or climate change in literary fiction. We are open to the period and area of focus. Our recently redesigned major in English includes courses in identity and difference, revolutions and rebellions, and cultural studies; the new hire will have the opportunity to design course content in these areas and others, to shape curricular development in the major, and to propose general education courses. Work with minority literatures, such as Indigenous or Latinx, would complement existing departmental strengths though this is not a pre-requisite of the position. 

The successful candidate must show a record of scholarly achievement and commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level, with demonstrated experience in composition. The new hire will be expected to teach six courses per year, with half of the load in English and half in first- and second-year Academic Writing. Teaching responsibilities in English will include courses at all levels. The successful candidate must show promise of scholarly achievement and a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level both in literature and academic writing.

A Ph.D. will be required by the time of appointment.
