The Opportunity:

The School of Teacher Education (STE) in the College of Community Innovation and Education (CCIE) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-earning assistant professor position in English Language Arts (ELA), anticipated to begin in Spring 2025.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate English Language Arts Education courses.
  • Work with program faculty to develop/refine English Language Arts Education curriculum.
  • Conduct research in the field and publish in high-ranking journals.
  • Write, submit, and receive external grants to support program and research initiatives.
  • Advise students and serve on unit and college committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include supervision of student teachers.

Expectations and Contributions: The selected candidate will contribute to the Secondary ELA Education program mission by:

  • Conducting research in area(s) of expertise.
  • Seeking external funding in area of expertise.
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Secondary English Language Arts.
  • Advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Recruiting and mentoring doctoral students.
  • Facilitating meaningful research experiences.
  • Actively participating in departmental, college, and university service activities.
  • Engaging in professional outreach at local and national levels.
  • Engaging in a program of research that leads to high-impact publications and presentations.
  • Teaching, supervising, and advising undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students in the program.
  • Collaborating with faculty colleagues on interdisciplinary research, teaching, and scholarship.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree from an accredited institution in English Language Arts or a closely related field. 
  • 3+ years PK-12 teaching experience in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in successfully teaching post-secondary undergraduate or graduate courses.
  • Experience with technology and demonstration of technology skills (e.g., teaching modalities).
  • Experience with external funding.
  • Publication of a few peer-reviewed articles.
  • Experience with mentoring/coaching teachers, research studies, or teaching activities.
  • Demonstrated success in creating regional and national literacy initiatives.
  • Experience in teaching and developing online courses or modules.
  • Evidence of leadership in scholarship, teaching, or service.
  • Evidence of engaging in the community through partnerships and interdisciplinary work.
