FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The English Department of Hunter College, City University of New York invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Global Anglophone Literature (1900-present) to begin Fall 2025. Areas of specialization may include postcolonial, comparative, and transnational approaches. We seek dynamic researchers and educators who will contribute to the life of the department and take an active role in shaping the future of course offerings in twentieth-century and contemporary literature, from required courses like ENGL 317, “Topics in Non-European Literary Traditions,” to more specialized courses at the 300- and 400-level and in our M.A. program based on the candidate’s specialized interests.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach three courses per semester at the advanced undergraduate or graduate level, pursue original scholarly research in their field, and participate in the administrative life of the department and the college.

Hunter College is the largest college in the City University of New York (CUNY). Founded in 1870, it is also one of the oldest public colleges in the country. More than 23,000 students currently attend Hunter, pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 170 areas of study. Hunter College’s English Department offers undergraduate and graduate courses in British, American, postcolonial and global literatures; literary theory and criticism; rhetoric, composition and linguistics; and creative writing. QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
