Position Summary

Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) is a public two-year and four-year degree-granting institution founded in 1909 by the New Mexico Constitution. NNMC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. NNMC operates from two campuses in Espanola and El Rito and serves an average of 1,000 students per semester. Applications are invited for a tenure track professor faculty position with a contract starting August 2024.
The Department of Language and Letters offers an AA in Liberal Arts and a Certificate of Literary Editing and Publishing. Additionally, departmental faculty teach general education courses in English and Communication. This position focuses on Co-Requisite English instruction as the college is transitioning from traditional developmental courses into full scale implementation of the Co-Requisite model. In the Co-Requisite model, students who do not test into college level English are placed into the first college-level course (ENGL 1110) and required to take a co-requisite supportive course (ENGL 109N) that reinforces their efforts to master the necessary college level reading and writing skills and pass the college level course.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop curriculum and teach courses within the Co-Requisite model (ENGL 1110 Composition I and the supportive ENGL 109N courses).
  • Collaborate with other faculty to team teach the Co-Requisite courses and develop resources for continued course development.
  • Teach face to face, hybrid, and online courses to meet departmental and student needs.
  • Participate in scholarly activities and serve on college committees;
  • Mentor developmental students and incorporate individualized instruction into the Co-Requisite courses;
  • Advise students regarding curriculum and related career paths;
  • Assess and evaluate student learning outcomes;
  • Participate in recruitment and retention initiatives; and
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Experience teaching Co-Requisite English courses, development English, and college-level English;
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with underprepared students and diverse groups;
  • Ability to develop engaging curriculum and active learning techniques; and
  • Experience teaching in different modalities including 16-week, 8 -week, face-to-face, online, and blended.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD in English or related field preferred.  PhD candidates (ABD) and candidates with terminal degrees, such as MFA, will also be considered.

SALARY : Based on credentials and experience.
