The Department of French at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for an Assistant Professor, Academic General Faculty, to join our department in August 2023. This is a one-year, tenure-ineligible appointment.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach six undergraduate courses at the intermediate to advanced levels of French, three each during the fall 2023 and spring 2024 terms.

A completed Ph.D in French is required. Native or near-native fluency in French is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who have at least two years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level; this may include teaching done while in graduate school if the candidate was the primary instructor of those courses. Candidates with expertise in 20th-21st century French studies, cultural history, linguistics, or Sub-Saharan Francophone Africa will be preferred.

This position will remain open until filled and review of applications will begin on May 25, 2023. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
