Summary of Job Duties:

The Assistant Professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages is a 9-month tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas to begin August 11, 2025. Northwest Arkansas is emerging as a vibrant and rapidly growing destination, attracting diverse multilingual populations including Hispanic and Marshallese communities among others. In recent years, the state has created opportunities to invest in bilingual education. This dynamic environment presents valuable opportunities for expanding and researching multilingual and home language development within school settings and across the broader community.

The Assistant Professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities: conduct research both individually and in collaboration with other faculty; publish the results of scholarship in refereed journals; obtain external funding to support research and curriculum development endeavors; develop and teach graduate and undergraduate level courses on the Fayetteville campus and online; participate in student advisement and mentoring, including service on graduate student advisory and dissertation committees; engage in community outreach with culturally and linguistically diverse populations; collaborate with P-12 schools such as through offering professional development or programmatic support; and provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate by August 2025, from a nationally recognized and accredited institution of higher education in TESOL, English as a Second Language (ESL), Bilingual Education, or a closely related field
  • Evidence of research interest in bilingual or dual language education
  • Evidence of proficiency in Spanish or Spanish language bilingualism

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of scholarly productivity (e.g., publications, presentations, grants) in the areas of ESL or bilingual education
  • Evidence of collaboration with P-12 US educators in bilingual/dual language programs such as through successful curriculum and/or professional development
  • Documented evidence of successful online and in person teaching at the college/university level
  • Evidence of teaching and/or preparation of teachers to teach in bilingual/dual language PK-12 programs
  • Experience in grant writing, managing grants, and/or grant evaluation.
