The School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus, invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching (tenure track position in the Educational Leadership stream. The School is a nucleus for education and training, research, and innovation in biomedical engineering, creating new knowledge, new academic and training programs, and fostering translation and innovation. This position provides the rare opportunity to pursue a career focused on excellence in teaching, curriculum design and other aspects of educational leadership in the UBC School of Biomedical Engineering. This position is especially focused on curriculum development, including the creation of new undergraduate and graduate courses in a structured, course-based Master’s program. We are also particularly looking for leadership in the development and implementation of short-duration, competency-based learning opportunities within micro-credentials and certificates.

Reporting to the Director of the UBC School of Biomedical Engineering, the successful candidate will engage in innovative curriculum design and pedagogy in a vibrant and growing collaborative teaching and learning community. The successful candidate will teach a range of Biomedical Engineering (BME) subject areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and commensurate with expertise. Example areas where these opportunities exist include biomanufacturing, bioprocessing, bioprinting and additive manufacturing, hydrogel biomaterials, advanced functional biomaterials. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with other programs and departments and be highly engaged in educational leadership activities including curriculum development, laboratory course development and implementation, pedagogical innovation, and other teaching and learning initiatives. The incumbent will also participate in relevant service activities within the University and provide service to the broader academic and professional community. They will work collaboratively in diverse groups to bring forward strategic initiatives for the School and the Faculties. The successful candidate will contribute to fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and embodies values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration, and equity. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related area, experience teaching biomedical engineering or bioengineering at a post-secondary level, with evidence of being able to integrate engineering and biological fundamentals in course development and delivery. A Canadian professional engineering (P.Eng.) licence or eligibility to obtain a PEng is a requirement. If appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching, The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of ability and commitment to teaching, and promise of educational leadership. If appointed at the rank of Associate Professor of Teaching, the successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching, demonstrated educational leadership, involvement in curriculum development and innovation, and other teaching and learning initiative. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with empathy, understanding and, respect of diverse perspectives. Experience in collaborating and bringing forward projects with diverse groups, including colleagues, students, and/or stakeholders, is valued.

The expected salary for this position is $120,000 to $130,000 per annum for the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching, tenure track, and $145,000 to $150,000 per annum for the rank of Associate Professor of Teaching, tenure.
