ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, POLITICAL SCIENCE (limited term)

The Department of L’nu, Political, and Social Studies in the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Cape Breton University invites applications for a full-time limited term position in Canadian Public Administration at the rank of Assistant Professor or Lecturer. This position will commence January 1 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter). This role will conclude on December 20, 2025 and is subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a graduate degree in a relevant field of study qualified applicants should have demonstrated teaching experience in delivering courses in Canadian Government, Canadian Public Administration and Public Sector Management. Required courses in each of these areas are used to meet the subject requirements for the undergraduate Diploma in Government Management Program (DGM).
The requited courses are also used to fulfill degree requirements, as part of both the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Community Studies Degree Programs. Political Science courses are delivered in-person, online and dual mode. Course loading would consist of 3 courses in the winter semester and 3 courses to be assigned over the following semesters.
Sample courses that could be assigned for the 2025 semesters include Introduction to Canadian Government and Politics, Introduction to Canadian Public Administration, Public Sector Management, Provincial Politics in Canada, Government-Business Relations in Canada, Local Government in Canada, Leaders and Leadership, Canadian Public Administration: Financial and Human Resource Management. The ability to teach quantitative or qualitative research methods would be considered an asset.
CBU teaches programs on campus, off campus in locations across and outside of Canada, and on-line. The university and its partners will therefore provide opportunities for faculty members to teach in different modes in different locations as part of their regular workload. While these opportunities may not be available equally for all faculty positions in all programs, a clear willingness to teach in different modes and locations will be noted as part of your application.

Finally, the successful candidate will be required to participate fully in the collegial life of the university by accepting administrative duties within the department and participating on university-wide committees and governance bodies.
