Assistant Professor positions in Cell and Systems Biology
Position #’s 34650 / 35793 / 35797
The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for three full-time probationary (tenure track) positions at the Assistant Professor level, commencing July 1, 2025, or on a date mutually agreed upon. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Outstanding candidates in the area of Cell and Systems Biology that work with aquatic organisms (position #’s 35793 or 35797) or in synthetic biology/biochemistry in any eukaryotic system (position # 34650) in their research program will be considered. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an internationally competitive research program to study fundamental or applied questions in cell, biochemical, molecular, genetic and/or developmental biology.
Successful candidates will hold a minimum of a PhD in the relevant discipline and have a proven record of high-quality scholarly research leading to peer-assessed publications. They will either have, or demonstrate the potential to, establish and sustain an independent and innovative externally funded research program. They will be expected to develop teaching excellence in cell and systems biology contributing to Undergraduate and Graduate degree programs, showing effective mentorship strategies promoting equity, diversity, inclusion and success of students. Effective leadership potential, ability to establish productive collaborations and a commitment to service of the Department and research community will be expected.

Research in the Department of Biological Sciences is supported by strong research links within the Faculty of Science including: Data Research Alliance of Canada; Mathematical Biology and Statistics; and off campus through IISD-Experimental Lakes Area; Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Freshwater Institute; National Microbiology Laboratory; Agriculture and Agri-foods Canada; Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Environment and Climate Change Canada.
