About the Faculty
The Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at Brock University is a leader in interdisciplinary research and home of five academic Departments: Kinesiology, Health Sciences, Nursing, Recreation and Leisure Studies, and Sport Management. The Faculty is a dynamic and vibrant academic environment with 90 faculty members, 24 staff, over 3500 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students. The Faculty offers unique, inter-disciplinary graduate programs
both at the masters and doctoral level including two MSc (Kinesiology; Health Sciences), five MA (Community Health; Leisure Studies; Nursing; Health and Physical Education; Sport Management) and three PhD fields (Health Biosciences; Behavioural and Population Health; Social and Cultural Health Studies).

The selected candidate will join the Department of Kinesiology. As a research-intensive department, Kinesiology provides an ideal environment for an expert in this field. The Department of Kinesiology offers bachelor’s degrees in
Kinesiology and physical education and to 1100 students, a Master of Professional Kinesiology, and a new Master of Athletic Therapy. The Department has housed four Tier II CRCs and one Tier I CRC and
several leading researchers. The new faculty focusing on athletic injury prevention and management will not only complement the current areas of research in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences but will also enjoy momentous

About the Position

The Department of Kinesiology invites applications for a tenure-track teaching-intensive position at the rank of Assistant Professor in support of the newly approved Master of Athletic Therapy Program beginning January 1, 2026. The Master of Athletic Therapy Program will welcome the first cohort in May 2026. The workload of a teaching-intensive faculty member shall normally be 60% teaching (equivalent to 3 half courses per Fall, Winter, and/or Summer terms), 20% research/scholarly/creative activities and 20% service.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a completed doctorate degree, university-level graduate and undergraduate teaching experience, the ability to teach applied athletic therapy courses, CAT(C) certification or be eligible to sit for exam (through International Arrangement), Canadian Red Cross First Responder Instructor certification, and a commitment to service including community engagement and knowledge translation. Demonstration of a strong record of scholarship is considered an asset as supervision of Major Research Projects for the Master of Athletic Therapy students will also be a requirement of this position.

Specifically, we are looking for a dynamic individual with expertise in athletic therapy injury evaluation, management, and rehabilitation and the ability to teach applied graduate level courses within one or more of the following areas: 1) emergency management;

2) musculoskeletal assessment;

3) therapeutic intervention, and/or

4) clinical anatomy to prepare students to sit for the National Certification Examination of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association.

Individuals may also teach in the other programs within the Kinesiology Department and should have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

1) care and prevention of athletic injuries;

2) clinical assessment; and/or

3) musculoskeletal anatomy.

The successful candidate should provide evidence of ability to work in a transdisciplinary environment and to make contributions to a vibrant group of scholars housed within the Department, Faculty, and University that can extend to the greater Niagara Community.
