Probationary (Tenure-Track) – Assistant Professor
School of Occupational Therapy

The Faculty of Health Sciences at Western University invites applications for up to 2 full-time Probationary (tenure-track) positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the School of Occupational Therapy. The successful candidates will be expected to: establish and conduct an externally funded program of occupation-based research which relates to one or more of the School’s four research pillars: optimize health and wellbeing, build diverse and inclusive communities, evolve Occupational Therapy practice and education, and advance social and occupational justice; teach assigned courses in the School of Occupational Therapy, the Health and Rehabilitation Sciences or Advanced Health Care Practice graduate programs, and/or the Bachelor of Health Sciences undergraduate program; supervise Master’s and PhD students; and fulfill administrative duties within the School, Faculty, and University. The successful candidates will actively contribute to the School’s commitment to sustaining an inclusive and diverse academic and student community, and ideally will have the capacity to provide leadership in enacting our strategic priorities related to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action.

Located in a research-intensive university, the School of Occupational Therapy has a strong record of research accomplishments including over $3.5M in research grants, 200+ publications, and 2,400+ media impressions in the last 5 years. The School’s vision to achieve excellence through the transformative power of occupation contributes to the faculty’s signature research areas of ‘Social Determinants of Health,’ ‘Changing Health Services, Systems, and Policies,’ and ‘On the Move’. Moreover, the School’s success in health-related research activities including A Healthy Future, A Technology-informed Future and A Just & Equitable Future makes significant contributions to the University’s strategic goal to Mobilize for Impact,” including, ‘connecting our work to the world’ ‘fostering relationships’ and ‘tackling the grand challenges of our time.’ The School also has active research links with two Research Centres in the Faculty, including the Centre for Research in Health Equity and Social Inclusion, and the National Centre for Audiology.

Eligible candidates must hold a PhD and be occupational therapists, registered or eligible for registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO). Preference will be given to applicants with an exemplary record of achievements in research for their stage of career. Applicants will also show significant knowledge and demonstrated research excellence to the fields of occupational science/occupational therapy, particularly as these relate to the School’s research pillars. Additional consideration will be granted for an applicant with proficiency related to Indigenous health and well-being and/ or paediatrics. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The effective date of the appointment is July 1, 2025, or as negotiated.

The accredited School of Occupational Therapy is recognized, nationally and internationally, for leadership in occupational therapy and occupational science. The School is committed to the development of occupational therapy as a science-driven, evidence-informed, and occupation-focused academic discipline with an established masters (MScOT) entry-level professional program. The School has a new innovative curriculum, excellent teaching, and research facilities, as well as clinical and community facilities to support the development of occupational therapy and occupational science. The School leads the Upper Extremity Rehabilitation field of study in the Master of Clinical Science in Advanced Healthcare Practice program and is a major contributor to the MSc and PhD programs in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. In partnership with the Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, the School of Occupational Therapy is the first Canadian program that provides an opportunity to pursue graduate education in Occupational Science and to obtain combined MScOT/PhD degrees.
