About the Faculty

The Faculty of Applied Health Sciences is home to over 100 faculty members, 4000 undergraduate and 250 graduate students in five departments: Kinesiology, Nursing, Health Sciences, Recreation and Leisure Studies, and Sport Management.

About the Position

The Department of Sport Management at Brock University invites applications from dynamic and engaged candidates for a full-time teaching-intensive tenure-track appointment. The successful candidate will be placed on a 60% teaching workload (teaching six courses per year), with 20% of their workload dedicated to research and scholarship activities, and the final 20% of their workload allocated to service activities. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and is slated to commence January 1, 2026. Candidates must have completed all requirements of a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, DBA) in sport management or a closely related field by January 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will have previous post-secondary teaching experience, and will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching through primary contributions to the department’s undergraduate offering, as well graduate teaching and supervision. In particular, we encourage applications from candidates with experience delivering content to large class sizes and those who experience embracing innovative pedagogies (e.g., experiential learning). The Department boasts significant subject matter breadth in sport management and, therefore, has diverse delivery needs. Consequently, candidates with an ability to teach in one or more of the following “clusters” (with example courses articulated in each cluster) will be prioritized:

:

Sport Business Operations (e.g., Sport Finance, Sport Economics, Sport Sales, Human Resources)
Strategy and Emerging Issues in Sport (e.g., Strategic Management, Organizational Theory, Social Responsibility, Sport Ecology)
International Sport (e.g., Global Issues, Event Management, Field Experiences)
Technology and Innovation in Sport (e.g., Data Management, Sport Analytics, Quantitative Research Methods)
For a full list of courses offered by the Department, please visit https://brocku.ca/webcal/2024/undergrad/spma.html.

Interested candidates should also indicate their potential and/or established record of satisfactory scholarly, creative, or professional work. Given the teaching focus of this role, candidates should demonstrate their ability to contribute to teaching and learning scholarship in sport management (e.g., case studies, workshop delivery, pedagogical innovations).

Hiring decisions will be made based on the congruence of candidates with the needs of the new program, outlined by the criteria noted above.

The Department of Sport Management is committed to inclusion, and to diversifying our faculty. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply. Further, we strongly encourage qualified applicants from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in sport management (e.g., Women, Aboriginal peoples, members of visible minorities, people with disabilities and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) persons). The closing date for applications is at 12:01 AM on February 1, 2025 and the review process will continue until the position is filled.
