Teacher Education Department (TED) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor (type B). The successful candidate will be expected to teach methods courses in elementary and secondary science and/or math, as well as other courses across the BEd and MEd programs. We especially welcome applications from those who have been historically marginalized in the field of teacher education.
TED includes undergraduate level pre-requisite courses; a 10 ½ month post-degree Bachelor of Education (BEd) for prospective elementary, middle, and secondary teachers; and a Master of Education (MEd) in Educational Leadership and Mentorship. Classes occur on the Chilliwack, Abbotsford, and Mission campuses.
TED is committed to anti-racism, social justice, decolonization, and Indigenization and these commitments are incorporated into every course and program. Our graduates are distinguished in the teaching profession because of their strong ability to integrate educational theory and knowledge into a reflective teaching practice that is critically minded, pedagogically sensitive, and socially just. The position is subject to budgetary approval.
This is a position for an individual who enjoys the challenge of working in a small, yet innovative, department and whose philosophy about pre-service and in-service teacher education is consistent with the TED’s Mission Statement, Department Values, and Commitments. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the five department values and four commitments and be able to embed them into curriculum design and delivery. The elementary/middle and secondary program structures can be found at https://www.ufv.ca/teacher-education/ . The MEd program can be found at https://ufv.ca/programs/master-of-education/ .
The applicant should have the expertise and ability to teach across a variety of subject areas in the BEd, specifically science and/or math methods. It is preferable for the applicant to possess expertise in educational leadership and have experience in mentorship theory and practice to teach courses in the MEd. This experience and expertise will enable the successful applicant to advance UFV’s strategic plan and Institutional Goals by supporting the implementation of strong graduate programs, the inclusion of integrated experiential learning, and the modelling of exceptional teaching practices.
The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses in the TED (both BEd and MEd programs), mentor teacher candidates during practica, supervise MEd candidates, work collaboratively with a variety of faculty and seconded faculty mentors, and participate in the TED teacher candidate admissions and orientation processes. There are additional expectations involving service to the university and the local community. The successful applicant will also be expected to maintain an active research and/or scholarship agenda with a focus on teacher education, leadership and/or mentorship education, and/or K – 12 education.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant will have a PhD or EdD in education, curriculum studies, or educational leadership. They will be an experienced K – 12 science and/or math educator with experience teaching contemporary, inquiry focused methods at the post-secondary level. Ideally, they will also have been a school leader and have taught educational leadership and/or mentorship at the post-secondary level.
Interested candidates should submit their curriculum vitae including evidence of appropriate qualifications, recent teaching evaluations, and three letters of reference.
