The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology. The teaching and pedagogical innovation in medical biochemistry and translational medicine position will focus on teaching and research in French in the following areas: metabolic pathways, cancer biology, anatomy, physiology, and the development and implementation of laboratory courses in the field of biomedical sciences, including but not limited to phage biology and molecular biology.

The Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology comprises over 100 faculty members and features a vibrant research atmosphere. It addresses fundamental questions in basic biomedical research and has strong links to translational and clinical research. The successful candidate will also be expected to establish and maintain a vigorous program of independent, externally funded research and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching programs.
Title of the position: Assistant Professor. The higher rank of Associate Professor will only be considered should the successful candidate possess an appropriate level of experience and commensurate achievements, and according to budgetary approval.

Duties: Academic staff functions include, in varying proportions:
- teaching
- scholarly activities such as research, artistic or literary creation, or professional work
- academic service
- graduate student supervision
Terms: Tenure-track position.
Wage: Salary scale for an Assistant Professor starts at $99,377 (as of May 1, 2025).

Skills requirements:
- Education: Ph.D. or MD/PhD
- Work experience:
- Strong track record of French teaching experience encompassing the following topics: metabolic pathways, cancer biology, anatomy, physiology, and innovative laboratory design (phage biology and molecular biology).
- Teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades that demonstrate excellent teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and research
- Excellent communication in French. Passive knowledge of one’s second official language (French or English) is a requirement for tenure. English-French bilingualism is an asset.
