The School of Education seeks an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) to teach and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in our secondary English Language Arts/Reading program and our Curriculum & Teaching Ph.D. program. The individual hired for this position will serve the school’s Curriculum and Instruction Department and maintain a research program focused on secondary English Language Arts/Reading, Literacy Studies, and/or Writing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintaining an active research agenda.
  • Seeking and securing grant funding to support programmatic research and outreach activities.
  • Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses.
  • Recruiting and mentoring graduate students.
  • Engaging in service to the profession, department, school, and university.

SALARY AND BEGINNING DATE: The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and professional experience. The anticipated date of appointment is August 2025.

Qualifications

Consistent with Baylor’s mission to be a world-class institution dedicated to Christian principles and ideals, the qualifications for the position include:

  • Doctorate in English Education, Literacy Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Record of scholarship commensurate with experience, and evidence of potential for establishing and sustaining a strong research agenda that contributes to the improvement of equity and excellence in secondary English/literacy education.
  • Evidence of, or strong potential for securing competitive extramural funding to support a programmatic research agenda.
  • Experience teaching English Language Arts in grades 6-12 (three or more years preferred).
  • Evidence of, or strong potential for, excellence in university-level teaching.
  • Experience working with preservice or practicing teachers to support inclusive instruction in diverse school communities.
  • A history of active engagement in a faith community in the Christian or Jewish tradition.
