JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

REPORTS TO: SUPERINTENDENT

CALENDAR: CERTIFIED/ADMINISTRATOR WORK CALENDAR

SALARY: ADMINISTRATOR SCHEDULE

Job Goal

The Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning will oversee all aspects of the District’s curriculum, instruction, personalized learning, and assessment programs. They will direct the effective implementation, evaluation, compliance and fiscal management to positively impact student achievement throughout the District. Administer and supervise assigned District program services in accordance with the Board policies, federal and state laws and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Administration or in a related field
  • Arizona Principal certification required
  • Superintendent certification preferred
  • Minimum three years successful District level administrative experience in public schools
  • Extensive knowledge of curriculum development and various PreK-12 instructional strategies
  • Experience in planning and implementing programs

Leadership and Vision

  • Providing leadership and vision to develop, achieve, and maintain the Chandler Unified School District mission and vision, goals, strategies, and key objectives described in the District’s Strategic Plan.
  • Supervises, coordinates, directs, and evaluates the activities of Teaching and Learning Departments.
  • Informs the Superintendent of all major teaching and learning activities, programs, and progress of the District.
  • Serves on Superintendent’s Executive Team.
  • Develop and evaluate effective instructional programs by analyzing and providing key information and data to administrators, community, and Governing Board.

Compliance and Evaluation

  • Ensures compliance with Board policies in the teaching and learning areas.
  • Assist principals with the development of federal and state programs at the school sites
  • Keep current with literature and legal requirements concerning federal and state programs, including attending professional meetings, and workshops as appropriate.
  • Develop long-term and short-term goals and objectives with accompanying arrangement plans for administration, supervision, and evaluation of District curriculum and federal projects.
  • Ensure that curriculum academic services, preschool, and federal projects are effectively and productively coordinated including monitoring of budgets.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and monitor the development and implementation of grants to ensure compliance with the District’s mission and project goals, objectives, budget, completion reports, and evaluation.
  • Conduct and direct use of appropriate system of records for students in accordance with needs, policies, regulations, and law.
  • Ensure the program effectiveness, practices, expenditures, and policies are communicated effectively to each school’s staff and the public.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Facilitate collaboration between departments that provide student support.
  • Establish effective working relationships with other institutions of the region, state, and nation, which may be helpful to teachers, students, and parents.
  • Develop and submit applications and reports to federal and state education projects.
  • Use effective presentation skills when addressing students, staff, parents, and the community including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals and articulate and audible speech.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Represent Chandler Unified School District while serving on community boards, councils that support the mission of educating students.
  • Serve on and chair committees at the discretion of the Superintendent.
  • Attending official district functions as the Superintendent may direct.
  • Assist parents in resolving concerns.
  • Engage community partners as volunteers.

Professional Development and Support

  • Actively support School Improvement Teams.
  • Continue to grow professionally through appropriate professional development opportunities.
  • Attend necessary meetings and training related to the position.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • The ability to visit schools and departments for observation and evaluation of initiatives.
  • Develop budget recommendations.
  • Assist in the budget planning and PreK-12 textbooks, instructional materials, capital equipment, travel, and in-service training.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and school districts to share and receive information on effective practices and extended support.

Positions in this classification typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, sitting, finger or manual dexterity, repetitive finger motion, speaking, hearing, seeing (with correction), focusing ability, or other factors applicable for the job. Employees may be subject to travel, odors, dust, poor ventilation, workspace restrictions, bloodborne pathogens, and loud noises. Employees may be required to lift or exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force to move objects frequently. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
