About the Opportunity

About the Opportunity:

We invite applications from qualified candidates for this full-time Non-Tenure-Track (NTT) Assistant Teaching Professor faculty position. This position is in the Department of Biology on the Boston campus (on-site), which is part of the College of Science, with significant opportunity for career advancement. The Department of Biology is strongly interdisciplinary and administers programs in the College of Science at Northeastern University in Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Behavioral Neuroscience for more than 1,200 undergraduates. The College is strongly committed to fostering excellence through diversity and enthusiastically welcomes nominations and applications from members of groups that have been, and continue to be, underrepresented in academia.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach multiple sections of Biology Project Lab, an inquiry-based laboratory course that gives students the opportunity to perform authentic scientific research. This course is usually taken in the sophomore or freshman year and prepares students for their first cooperative learning experience (co-op) in academic or industry research labs. NTT faculty with appointments in Biology are expected to teach five courses and provide one equivalent unit of service to the Department and/or the College. This role involves coordination with other instructors, organization of laboratory curricula, and additional course development.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences or a closely related discipline prior to the start of the appointment
  • Demonstrated excellence in the following: laboratory instruction and/or research mentoring, communication, collaboration, and leadership. Prior knowledge or experience with research-based undergraduate laboratory classes is highly preferred. Experience with typical model organisms such as microorganisms, nematode, Drosophila, or other study systems preferred.
  • The position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work productively and successfully both individually and in a team with other faculty as well as interacting with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Quick decision-making and exceptional problem-solving skills are needed to promptly assist students in their project work during class.
