The University of Washington’s Department of Chemical Engineering invites applications for one full-time Assistant Teaching Professor (100% FTE).

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington has an excellent opportunity for a non-tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. We offer a highly collegial and collaborative culture, with a range of teaching and curriculum-development opportunities in undergraduate, graduate and professional certificate courses. The portfolio of expected teaching responsibilities will include our Interfaces, Surfaces and Colloids curricula along with additional core and elective lecture and laboratory classes. Additional responsibilities will include stewardship of the Chemical Engineering Shared Instrumentation Facility (SIF), which is a core component of our teaching laboratories and shared research instrumentation. 

The Assistant Teaching Professor will be hired on multi-year appointments of a minimum of 3 years with a 9-month service period (September 16 through June 15) that may allow for additional opportunities to teach during the summer. While the UW does not offer a path for tenure for teaching-track positions, the position can be renewed, and there are pathways for promotion and advancement are possible. The anticipated start date could be as soon as September 1, 2024. The initial appointment duration will be 3-5 years and compensation will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications.

The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate and deliver project-based learning curricula and capstone projects. The successful candidate will join a vibrant faculty conducting multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary ground-breaking research, instruction, and collaboration. This position will also be involved in enabling state-of-the-art research in the areas of interfacial, colloid, and polymer science through the use of a variety of laboratory instrumentation.

Qualifications

The position requires a PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field (or foreign equivalent) and the following:

• Prior teaching expertise in Chemical Engineering laboratory courses including, but not limited to, graduate teaching assistantships
• Ability to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and expertise, via either prior research or teaching, in Interfaces, Surfaces and Colloids or a related subject
• Ability to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and expertise to manage shared instrumentation facilities used for teaching and research
