Job Description 

Syracuse University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Nutrition and Food Studies to begin in the Fall 2025 semester. This is a 3-year term. An extensive professional background and/or teaching expertise in culinary arts and nutrition is desirable. The Department of Nutrition and Food Studies in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, offers a B.S. degree in Nutrition, a B.S. in Nutrition Science, an M.S. in Nutrition Science, and an M.A. in Nutrition Science.

Pay rates at Syracuse University are based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to, the job responsibilities; the candidate’s education, training, work experience and key competencies; the university’s strategic priorities; internal peer equity; applicable federal, state, local laws, grant funding and contractual requisites; and external market analyses.

Qualifications 

Master’s degree required.

Job Specific QualificationsA record of culinary and teaching experience, with a minimum of 5 years of employment in food-related positions; and/or a demonstrated level of teaching competence and ability to teach food-based laboratory courses, is required. Teaching expertise should focus on culinary arts and food science. The overriding requirement for faculty appointment and reappointment must be distinguished performance.

ResponsibilitiesPrimary duties include undergraduate instruction in the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies, on a teaching load of 4 courses per semester. As with all faculty positions, there is an expectation to engage in service in the department, college, university, profession, and community.

  • Must be able to manage all aspects of setting up physical lab space, and assisting with ordering, receiving, and storing of goods and equipment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Tools/Equipment 

  • Must be able to work and manage commercial kitchen equipment and environment.
