Position TitleAssistant Teaching Professor of Landscape ArchitectureAbout this OpportunityThe Department of Landscape Architecture has one (1) contract faculty vacancy available to teach a broad range of courses in the professional programs, including studio, lectures, labs, and seminars.

Appointment TypeNon-Tenure-track/ContractLength of AppointmentFT Academic YearDescriptionThe Department of Landscape Architecture has one (1) non-tenure-line faculty position available starting August 2024. Primary responsibilities include teaching support courses, studios, and seminars in our professional and post-professional programs (BLA, MLA, MUD), in teams and individually. Contract length is from one to three years based on qualifications and experience.

This is a 100% teaching appointment. Teaching responsibilities will include landscape architecture courses at all undergraduate and graduate levels, and potentially interdisciplinary courses in the college.

  • Applicant must demonstrate the capacity to teach in design studios and one or more of the following areas: design process (e.g., land/site analysis, conceptual design, design development, construction documentation), digital applications (including GIS), traditional and contemporary graphic communication, design build, landscape ecology/environmental systems, contemporary design theory, sustainable landscape construction processes and technologies.
  • Ability to work in multiple teaching modalities (in-person, online, hybrid, field studies) is expected.
  • There may also be opportunities to engage in scholarship and service, or may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

Minimum QualificationsMaster’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited* institution OR Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited* institution and an advanced degree OR Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited* institution and meet four of the following criteria:

  • Relevant professional licensure (landscape architecture, architecture, interior design, engineering, planning, etc.)
  • Record of discipline-based scholarship or creative work (5+ examples)
  • Cumulative 10+ years of professional experience in landscape architecture or related discipline or 20+ years teaching experience in a professional degree program
  • Cumulative 4+ peer-reviewed professional awards
  • Cumulative 4+ invited lectures and/or presentations for professional work
  • Cumulative 2+ leadership roles in professional organizations
  • Membership or certification (ASLA, AIA, NCARB, APA, etc.; SITES AP and LEED certification, etc.)
  • Or International equivalent
  • Authorization to work in the USCandidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Landscape Architecture from an accredited institution or related discipline with an established design practice/research agenda
  • Professional licensure
  • Exemplary studio teaching experience
  • Willingness to teach in the Master of Urban Design Program in Indianapolis.
  • Three to five recent years of experience in landscape architecture or related practice
  • Commitment to collaboration and professional collegiality
