Job Summary
The School of Social Science and Global Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, Assistant Teaching Professor of Legal Studies beginning August 2025. This is a teaching-track position with opportunities for promotion. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong background in the study of law and a commitment to undergraduate education. Duties include a 4:4 teaching load and active student mentorship.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach four courses per semester, fall and spring.
- Hold regular office hours.
- Mentor and advise students in the program.
- Assist students in job placement upon graduation.
- Attend faculty meetings as determined by the Director of the School of Social Science and Global Studies.
- Engage in professional development and/or scholarly activities appropriate to the mission of the School, College and University.
- Provide service to assist the functioning of the School, College, and University.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Juris Doctorate from an American Bar Association-accredited law school. Current license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction. A minimum of 3 years of experience in the actual practice of law. At least 1 year of experience supervising paralegals while practicing law or working as a paralegal.
Preferred Qualifications
At least 1 year of teaching experience in an American Bar Association approved paralegal studies program.
