JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Learning and Performance Systems in Penn State’s College of Education is seeking a highly qualified and agile Assistant Teaching Professor who will work for the Workforce Education and Development (WFED) program. This is a full-time 36-week, non-tenure line faculty appointment beginning August 2023 and is funded for one-year. We highly encourage applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds.
The Workforce Education and Development program is committed to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEI&B) and operates by upholding Organization Development (OD) values that are highly grounded in humanism and democracy for teaching, practice, and communications. The long-range goal of the program is to educate future Workforce Education and Development practitioners and scholars to be DEI&B in mind and versatile in using technology to build collaborative and virtual, cross-cultural decision-making environments.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will teach in the Workforce Education and Development program with responsibility for teaching residential and online courses, such as Historical and Philosophical Foundations of Workforce Education, Technologies for Work Effectiveness, Cultural Diversity in the Workplace, and Data Analysis in Workforce Education and Development. The successful candidate will attract undergraduate students to take WFED courses; to work in partnership with the existing Director of the online Master of Professional Studies in ODC and the Professor-in-Charge of the WFED program; to participate in curriculum development efforts; and to develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses. Successful applicants will nurture a community of practice through the WFED/OD&C Professional Development Network. Many of our students are employed in business, government, or other settings. Successful applicants will be willing to: (1) teach undergraduate and graduate-level course in person in University Park; (2) facilitate and coordinate actions to engage graduate and undergraduate students in efforts that transcend classroom and online environments to help them build their qualifications to achieve their career goals; and (3) facilitate and coordinate actions to engage alumni of Workforce Education and Development, to help them remain associated with the program. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising.
Required qualifications (commensurate with experience):
- Earned doctorate in Organization Development, Change Management, Human Resource Development, Workforce Education and Development or related fields; Candidates finishing their doctorates by August 1, 2023 will be considered as well.
- At least 5 years of work experience including a managerial or leadership level is required.
- Evidence of a strong fundamental understanding of Organization Development (OD) and Workforce Education and Development.
- Evidence of teaching ability of the mentioned course topics.
- Documented evidence of professional development efforts made to enhance knowledge and skills about ODC and WFED.
- Evidence of proficiency in applying technology to consulting and instruction.
- Evidence of program development and management experiences
- Evidence of philosophical alignment with OD values (i.e., awareness of self and system, integrity, courageous leadership, continuous learning and innovation, diversity, collaborative engagement, trust and respect, client growth and development, and strategic practicality; see https://www.odgathering.com/).
- Evidence of a strong, demonstrated interest in student activities and development.
- Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising, including a willingness to be present locally in the State College area.
- Evidence of a commitment to teaching in online environments and integrating innovative technology into university courses; and
- Evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Desirable qualifications:
WFED faculty have broad interests, but they all share interest in using research to improve and inform human systems such as education and the world of work. Our program seeks applicants who is an advocate of DEI&B initiatives demonstrated through publications and practical activities. In addition, applicants who have a proficiency in using quantitative research through data analytics and machine learning would be preferred.
