Associate/Full Professor and Department Chair, Teaching, Learning and Leadership
Position Description
Seattle University, a nationally ranked Jesuit-Catholic institution located near downtown Seattle, seeks a highly collaborative, innovative tenured professor and administrator to lead the newly formed Department of Teaching, Learning and Leadership (TLL) as Department Chair in the College of Education beginning July 1, 2024. The Teaching, Learning and Leadership Department includes programs in Educational Administration, Educational Leadership (EdD Program), School Psychology, Student Development Administration, and Teacher Education. This Chair will shepherd the department through a time of innovation, organizational change, and rapid growth of new and reimagined programs including both online hybrid and traditional in-person degree programs.
The Department Chair of TLL will have the opportunity to support work to enhance existing programs and build new programs and increase the College’s focus and integration of global and international learning experiences, as well as an increased focus on faculty research and scholarship. The College seeks a Department Chair who is equity-minded and can think and lead with an interdisciplinary lens. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, strategic and visionary leader, an accomplished scholar, instructional leader, skilled communicator, teacher and facilitator, with evidence of strategic leadership and a demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. In addition, we seek a leader who is committed to fostering the development of both tenure-track and term faculty while building community and belonging within the department and College. The Department Chair of TLL will support the recruitment, development, and retention of talented faculty and students, oversee curricular planning, support faculty scholarship and teaching, and advocate for, manage, and allocate resources to meet the demands of the field and the interdisciplinary department within the College today and in the future.
The Chair of TLL will balance a broad range of administrative and leadership responsibilities, under the direction of the Dean of the College. Overseeing the implementation of a strategic vision for the Department, the Chair is also responsible for faculty hiring and evaluation process, curricular planning and scheduling, departmental operations and budgeting, support for teaching, research, and service activities, attracting and retaining excellent students from a diverse range of backgrounds, and partnerships within and across the College, University, and Region. The TLL Chair is responsible for a growing faculty including tenured and tenure track faculty, clinical/teaching faculty, adjunct faculty, and full-time staff. Across this diverse types of faculty, the TLL Chair will demonstrate the ability to foster strong community and collaboration within the Department.
Base salary for the role is currently anticipated to range from $80,000-$92,000 commensurate with experience, skills, and the qualifications required for this role. There will be an additional administrative salary for the chair role.

Compensation at a Glance:
Salary Range: $80,000 – $92,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
