Job Description
The Department of English at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) invites applicants for a tenure-track Associate or Full Professor in English and Director of Core Writing (DCW) to begin July 1, 2025. The successful candidate will assume the administration of our well-developed (approximately 250 sections per year) Core Writing Program (CWP), which was designated an NCTE/CCCC Program of Excellence in 2022. This position comes with a six-year commitment to a 10-month contract, stipend for off-contract work, and a 1/1 teaching load in Rhetoric & Writing Studies; the position is additionally supported by a half-time administrative assistant, an Associate Director, an Assistant Director, and 3 Graduate Writing Program Administrators.
Responsibilities of the DCW include:
After six years, should the successful candidate wish to step down as director, they will transition into a 9-month tenure-track position with a 2/2 teaching load and no stipend.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee’s spouse or domestic partner. Department Information
The Department of English, housed in the College of Liberal Arts, offers a diverse range of fields of study including literature, language and linguistics, professional and public writing, and creative writing. We also offer a minor in cinema and media studies. Our graduate programs include PhD concentrations in literature and Rhetoric & Writing Studies, an MFA in creative writing, and MA degrees in literature, RWS, and Public Engagement. The department houses the Core Writing program for the university and maintains close relationships with other core and affiliate programs including Core Humanities and the Department of Gender, Race, and Identity Studies.
