The Department of Periodontics is seeking a full-time, non-tenure track position as Director of the Graduate Periodontics Program with the initial rank of Associate Teaching Professor (comparable to clinician teacher). This appointment is a 12-month (July 1 – June 30) service period with an anticipated start date of Jan 1, 2025. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join an already accomplished and vibrant academic program and contribute to advancing the science of periodontology through the pursuit of teaching, service, and scholarly activity. The Department has dedicated and experienced faculty, both full and part-time, all of whom are committed to excellence in education, patient care, scholarly activity, and research. Faculty in the Department are active in dental school and university-wide affairs as well as in the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Board of Periodontology, the American Dental Association, the American Dental Education Association, and the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research. The University of Washington (UW) faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The individual for this position will participate in all aspects of the graduate periodontics program including program management, the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum associated with the program, CODA accreditation, and program resources. Responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching in the graduate periodontics program; supervision of the periodontics clinical care team, including part-time faculty and affiliate faculty; mentoring graduate student research projects; service; and providing continuing dental education instruction. The successful candidate will be expected to work in an interdisciplinary environment with Graduate Prosthodontics, Orthodontics, and Endodontics. The program also offers an MSD degree to residents. Therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in research and will be involved in resident projects. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, research experience and research mentoring with residents. The successful candidate will be expected to advance the teaching mission of the Department.

The initial appointment as Associate Teaching Professor shall be for a period not to exceed seven years. The normal appointment period shall be for a minimum of three years, subject to reappointment review by voting-eligible faculty in the Department as well as the availability of funding and departmental needs.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. The posted UW salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. The base salary range for this position will be: $15,833.34 – $18,333.34 per month ($190,000 – $220,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Up to one day per week can be allocated to clinical practice, either in the UW Dentistry Faculty Practice, if available, or outside private practice if requested and approved by the UW.

Qualifications

Required. DMD/DDS or foreign equivalent, certificate of advanced training in periodontics from a CODA- accredited program, certification by the American Board of Periodontology, and a minimum of five (5) years teaching experience in a dental education setting.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a record of excellence in instruction, which may be demonstrated by exemplary success in curricular design and implementation; student mentoring; and service and leadership to the unit, department, school, university, and/or equivalent as well as professional organizations.
