About the Opportunity
Brock University Library invites applications for the position of Associate University Librarian (AUL), Research.

As a member of a collaborative senior library leadership team, the AUL Research will work closely with the University Librarian, other colleagues in the Library, and the wider university community to provide creative leadership in the development and implementation of the Library’s strategic priorities and objectives.

Direct reports currently include the heads of the Collections Services, Archives & Special Collections, and the Research Lifecyle departments. The portfolio of this AUL includes leadership in the strategic development and delivery of the Library’s services advancing research at Brock including:

Collections Services, such as collection development, acquisitions, content management.
Archives & Special Collections, such as print and digital preservation, collection development & acquisitions, relationship management.
Research Lifecycle, such as scholarly communications, research metrics, persistent identifiers, data management, and digital scholarship.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the AUL will: collaborate in planning and implementing library services, programs, staffing and other initiatives; participate and/or lead cross-departmental working groups and project teams; maintain a comprehensive understanding of developments affecting academic librarianship; provide mentoring support and work with others to promote positive organizational change; collaborate on organizational development; serve on library, university and external committees; participate in professional organizations; and apply knowledge of collective agreements and university policies to the effective management of library operations.

Within the AUL’s portfolio, the AUL will: provide strategic leadership in the development of innovative new services, programs and initiatives; supervise, support, and collaborate with department heads; human resources and budgets; and provide sponsorship and leadership of key projects and initiatives.

Qualifications
A Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library program or equivalent.
Minimum of seven years of experience as a professional librarian or archivist demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility
Formal leadership and management experience within a library or archives environment
Demonstrated ability to engage, empower and motivate people, and foster teamwork
Experience in leading and championing innovation in one or more of the areas in this portfolio (collections, archives and special collections, and the research lifecycle).
Knowledge of library consortia (e.g. Canadian Research Knowledge Network, Ontario Council of University Libraries) and their role in licensing and managing access to resources.
Knowledge of collection development theory and practice.
Demonstrated success in managing within a unionized environment.
Knowledge of strategic trends and operational issues impacting library services, collections, technologies and spaces.
Highly collaborative and collegial, with the ability to participate in shared decision-making.
Demonstrated excellence in communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to advocate and promote library value.
Analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated success using innovation and flexibility to address challenges.
Record of scholarship and/or professional development in the library and information science community.
Understanding of inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation and decolonization, and a demonstrated commitment to advance a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Demonstrated ability to a promote positive and safe organizational culture.
Assets
Master’s degree in a related discipline
Experience in an academic library or archives environment
Experience with planning and preparing a budget in a library context
Active participation in consortial networks.
Knowledge of collection acquisitions business practices.
Knowledge of assessment and evaluation concepts.
Term of Appointment:
This senior academic administrative position is excluded from all bargaining units. Appointment will be for a 5-year term, renewable, with an underlying librarian appointment. The successful applicant will be appointed at a salary level commensurate with experience and qualifications. This appointment is available as of November 1, 2024.
