On behalf of the Buckinghamshire Museums’ Network, Milton’s Cottage is seeking a freelance artist, designer and / or illustrator to create a Buckinghamshire Museum Map, highlighting the many great museums across our county.

Job Description

Overview

We are looking to commission a freelance artist, designer and / or illustrator to create a visually engaging, easy-to-navigate, accessible and informative map of Buckinghamshire’s museums, providing an overall visual identity that:

  • Encourages local residents, workers and visitors to discover Buckinghamshire’s museums
  • Highlights each museum’s location, key features and accessibility information
  • Can be used in both print and digital formats to promote local cultural engagement

Budget

This is a freelance position and the total budget available for this project is £500, including all fees, materials and expenses required to develop print-ready artwork. This fee is based on 2 full day’s work (14 hours) to develop the project. It is funded by Museum Development South East (MDSE), and the Buckinghamshire Museums’ Network will oversee the print and distribution requirements of the project.

About the Buckinghamshire Museums’ Network

This is an informal group of museum and archive partners who meet regularly to discuss shared issues, work co-operatively, and increase access to the collections in our county. It includes the following partners, who will oversee this project:

  • Buckinghamshire Culture
  • Chiltern Open Air Museum
  • Discover Bucks
  • Marlow Museum
  • Milton’s Cottage
  • National Paralympic Heritage Trust
  • Wycombe Museum

Job Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in graphic design and / or illustration commissions
  • Strong skills in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, or equivalent design software
  • Understanding of accessibility and user-centred design
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Desirable Requirements

  • Familiarity with the local area or cultural sector.
  • Previous experience with map or infographic projects
