Canada Research Chair Tier 1 in Metabolism and Cancer Immunity

The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, and the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute, at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary invite applications for a Canada Research Chair Tier 1, position with Tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in Metabolism and Cancer Immunity. This position guarantees 75% protected time for research. The selected candidate will be nominated for a Tier I Canada Research Chair (CRC) (website). The CRC is tenable for seven years and renewable once.

Qualifications required include a PhD or equivalent, and postdoctoral research fellowship experiences. The selected applicant will be a recognized leader in the field of cancer immunology and will have expertise in the implementation of novel systems or computational methodologies to obtain an understanding of how systemic or local metabolic processes impact tumour biology. Areas of potential focus would include, but not be limited to, understanding the impact of metabolic health (for example, as driven by diet, obesity, and/or exercise) on the tumour microenvironment, how metabolism may influence the response to cancer immunotherapies, and how metabolic interventions can be aimed at improving immunotherapy outcomes. The program will be potentially complementary and collaborative with current strengths in the School of Medicine built around cutting-edge facilities such as the International Microbiome Centre, the Live Cell Imaging Centre, the Wild Microbiome and Immunity Centre, and the Riddell Centre for Cancer Immunotherapy. The applicant will have evidence of effectiveness in teaching and trainee mentorship at the University level or equivalent. The applicant must also meet the criteria for a Canada Research Chair at the Tier I level. Applicants at the level of Associate Professor will have evidence of leading a research program as demonstrated by external peer-reviewed national/international grant funding, national/international presentations, and peer-reviewed research publications that have influenced an area of research in their field.

Applicants at the level of Professor will have evidence of leading a well-established research program as demonstrated by sustained external peer-reviewed national/international grant funding with evidence of collaboration, national/international presentations, and peer-reviewed research publications that have established and influenced an area of research in their field.

The selected applicant will join the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases and become an active member of the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute. The Department and Institute have a well-recognized multi-disciplinary research environment that will support the chosen applicant’s ability to direct a collaborative research program in cancer immunology research. The Department and Institute prioritizes trans-disciplinary research initiatives, and the selected applicant’s ability to build connections with investigators across the Cumming School of Medicine and the University of Calgary in such initiatives will position them to be successful.

In addition to fostering a thriving training program, the selected candidate will participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Experience with lecturing and innovative educational approaches, course development and coordination, and a demonstrated record of impact in undergraduate teaching. The selected applicant will also have opportunities to be involved in administrative and service activities that affect the Cumming School of Medicine community.
