Chief Medical Officer – Lihir Medical Services

We are seeking an experienced Chief Medical Officer to oversee the clinical operations of Lihir Medical Services in Papua New Guinea. This role involves direct patient care, clinical oversight and secondary review, coordination of medical referrals, and medical evacuations. The CMO provides leadership and guidance to the medical team, ensures adherence to clinical guidelines, engages with stakeholders, and oversees training and education programs. Additionally, the CMO is responsible for data analysis and reporting to improve service delivery and patient outcomes.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Represent Lihir Medical Services with the Health Service Manager to the Client, External Stakeholders and Community Members.
• Provide Clinical and Strategic leadership to the Medical Services of Lihir to include the Lihir Medical Centre, Mine Site Clinic and Camp Site Clinic.
• Provide direct supervision to the team of Medical Doctors, Intensive Care Paramedic and Heads of Department (Radiology, Pharmacy and Lab) to ensure compliance with evidenced base guidelines and standards to include rational prescription, waste reduction and creation of efficient health service delivery.
• Undertake clinical responsibilities in the hospital by being actively involved in patient care to include consultation, secondary review and recommendations for Medical Referrals and Medical Evacuations as required.
• Coordinate Medical Emergencies, Medical Referrals and Medical Evacuations according to Standard Operating procedures and MERP to include coordination, communication, documentation and reporting.
• Any other reasonable duties delegated by management.

Essential experience and qualifications:

• Relevant and Recognised Medical Qualification and Fellowship with relevant professional society.
• Current Professional Registration/ Licence/ Authority to Practice in Country of Origin with no restrictions or conditions.
• Current or willing to obtain PNG Professional Registration – Medical Doctor.
• Current or willing to obtain PNG ATP – Medical Doctor.
• Current CPR/BLS and ALS certification of Equivalent (ACLS/ ITLS/ ATLS).
• Minimum ten (10) years of experience to include trauma/emergency, occupational health, family medical and tropical medicine and minimum 5 years leadership or management roles.
• Experience working in remote, resource limited and isolated locations preferable.
