CHRONIC VIOLENCE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CASTING CALL

nearmejobs.eu

Job Summary

We are looking for four cast members for the research and development of a new theatre project. Chronic Violence is a puppetry professional wrestling show which will have an all-disabled cast.

Job Description

What is the project?

The project is funded by Arts Council England and supported by BIMM University through the donation of free rehearsal space.

Our aim is to create a show in which disabled performers can take on this highly physical form of storytelling. We want to use the thematic and emotion driven form of storytelling used in professional wrestling to tell disabled stories. We will be working on integrating access into the show, for both cast and audience. The whole cast will take part in integrated audio description training. Audio description will be worked into the show through the wrestling commentator roles.

As this is a research and development project the cast members will contribute to devising the show and developing the storyline. The show will be built around the cast, their needs and their strengths. We will do our best to meet all access needs but are working in a very limited time frame.

Rate of Pay

The total pay for each cast member for the whole project is £2775.

Cast members will be paid as freelancers and are responsible for paying their own tax and National Insurance.

Job Requirements

Who are we looking for?

Performers can be of any age (18+), gender identity, ethnicity. Characters will be built around the cast. Applicants must identify as disabled but do not need a formal diagnosis and are not expected to disclose their disability.

Whilst there are several desirable criteria for this project, we are aware that applicants may have faced barriers to training and performance opportunities due to access issues. We encourage people to apply regardless of experience if they are interested in the project and available for the required dates.

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience/training/interest in puppetry
  • Experience/training/interest in improvisation (theatrical or comedic)
  • Fan of professional wrestling
