We are looking for a Collections Curator to work with staff across the organisation on the Strategic Programming Committee, lead the development and delivery of collections-based displays and interpretation, engaging the widest range of audiences with the art and ideas of GF and Mary Watts.

Job Description

Working with staff across the organisation on the Strategic Programming Committee, lead the development and delivery of collections-based exhibitions, displays and interpretation, engaging the widest range of audiences with the art and ideas of GF and Mary Watts.

Work in tandem with the Exhibitions Curator to embed the art of GF and Mary Watts in our exhibitions and wider creative programmes and support practicing artists responding to the collection with knowledge and access to the collections and archival material.

Act as the organisational lead for Museum Accreditation and oversee our loans programme, ensuring we are able to lend works from the collection as widely and cost effectively as possible in the UK and overseas.
Line managing full-time Collections Officer to play a central part in enhancing the care and documentation of our collections, library, and archive.

Job Requirements

3 years curatorial experience in a museum or gallery environment

A specialist knowledge in nineteenth and early twentieth-century British art, history, and visual culture

Demonstrable experience of developing and delivering collections-based exhibitions, displays, interpretation and engagement in a museum or gallery setting

Proven experience of caring for collections and maintaining collection documentation and a strong understanding of conservation practice

Experience of using a collections management system

MA/PhD degree in History of Art, or equivalent experience

Excellent knowledge of Museum Accreditation standards, Spectrum 5.1 and the MA Code of Ethics for Museums

Collaborative with strong team-working and interpersonal skills

Strong line management and effective coaching and supervision skills

Project co-ordination skills and demonstrable evidence of the ability to plan and prioritise work to meet agreed standards, deadlines, and budgets
