Job Summary:

The Office of Medical Education has an opening for a Colorado Springs Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) Southern Colorado Medical Education Liaison Role (MD Program) at 0.1 FTE.

The Southern Colorado Medical Education Liaison will work closely with the Colorado Springs Branch LIC Specialty Liaisons and LIC Directors to develop clinical education experiences along the southern Front Range with an emphasis on Pueblo, Cañon City, and surrounding communities. The Southern Colorado Medical Education Liaison will work with local health systems and medical practices to recruit preceptors in emergency medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, family medicine, OB/GYN, surgery, and psychiatry. This is at at-will, paid position at a 0.1 FTE equivalent of salary support, with salary capped at the Education Salary Cap of $200,000.

Supervision Received: The position will report to the CSB – Director of LIC Development- Southern CO Expansion with a dotted reporting line to the Assistant Dean of Medical Education- CSB.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships with local clinicians, health systems leaders, and medical practice administrators to support the integration of LIC students into southern Front Range clinical environments.
  • Recruitment, stewardship, and oversight of Southern Colorado preceptors who work longitudinally with students. 
  • Provide ongoing faculty development to preceptors regarding longitudinal precepting, mentoring and assessment skills. 
  • Develop protocols and systems to facilitate longitudinal care of patients for students, including assisting students in follow up of patients who are admitted for inpatient treatment and follow-up in specialty care areas.
  • Collaborate with the other CSB LIC Liaisons to facilitate/teach specialty-appropriate didactic sessions at the CSB over the year 
  • Assist with the assessment of students including direct observation, identification of students who need support, collaboration with LIC Directors on remediation plans, gathering of assessments and feedback from preceptors working with students, and participation in grading meetings.
  • Assist with the administration of the LIC programs at their site as needed.
  • Liaisons are expected to be involved in direct medical student teaching of medical students in the Colorado Springs Branch LICs, such as students in clinical environments in Pueblo, Cañon City, and/or surrounding communities
  • Participation in quarterly Colorado Springs Branch LIC meetings will be expected
  • Participation, where appropriate, in virtual or in-person state-wide meetings with the LIC teams from other CU School of Medicine LIC sites.

Instructor:

  • M.D. or D.O. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (open rank) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Candidates must perform clinical work in the southern Front Range with an emphasis on Pueblo, Cañon City, and surrounding communities

Sr. Instructor:

  • M.D. or D.O. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (open rank) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Candidates must perform clinical work in the southern Front Range with an emphasis on Pueblo, Cañon City, and surrounding communities

Assistant Professor:

  • M.D. or D.O. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (open rank) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Candidates must perform clinical work in the southern Front Range with an emphasis on Pueblo, Cañon City, and surrounding communities

Associate Professor:

  • M.D. or D.O. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (open rank) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Candidates must perform clinical work in the southern Front Range with an emphasis on Pueblo, Cañon City, and surrounding communities

Professor:

  • M.D. or D.O. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment (open rank) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  • Candidates must perform clinical work in the southern Front Range with an emphasis on Pueblo, Cañon City, and surrounding communities

Preferred Qualifications (Same for all ranks):

  • Experience teaching medical students.
  • Experience with and knowledge of medical education at the University of Colorado School of Medicine

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The successful individual in this position must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and value working within a team.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail are important. 
  • The individual in this position needs to be a person who can cultivate relationships with both university and community physicians, as well as students, and be available to answer questions and problem-solve as needed.
  • This person must also cultivate sustainable relationships with other faculty in the school of medicine and the Colorado Springs Branch, working to ensure the curriculum is well represented. 
  • The individual must enjoy working with students, providing advice on how to troubleshoot/resolve issues, and assisting students to ensure their success.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Instructor: $10,000 to $20,000 as .10 FTE salary support plus benefits, up to the educational salary cap of $200,000

Sr. Instructor: $10,000 to $20,000 as .10 FTE salary support plus benefits, up to the educational salary cap of $200,000

Assistant Professor: $10,000 to $20,000 as .10 FTE salary support plus benefits, up to the educational salary cap of $200,000

Associate Professor: $10,000 to $20,000 as .10 FTE salary support plus benefits, up to the educational salary cap of $200,000
