Overview
Jhpiego seeks a Communication and Knowledge Management Specialist for the newly awarded USAID-funded Comprehensive Community Prevention and Continuum of Care (C4) Program – Project Connect in Botswana. As the technical assistance provider, Jhpiego will strengthen civil society organizations (CSOs) to be able to deliver quality HIV and social services. Jhpiego will also partner with the Government of Botswana (GOB), particularly ministries at the national level and district government offices to prioritize and strengthen their leadership capacity, coordination of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and gender-based violence (GBV) response strategies, and monitoring. The initial period of performance is two years with the possibility of three-one-year renewal periods.
Responsibilities
The Communication and Knowledge Management (CKM) Specialist works collaboratively with the technical teams to spotlight Project Connect’s achievements through stories, and visuals, sharing the lessons and best practices for implementation & decision-making. The CKM Specialist will develop a CKM strategy in consultation with the Senior Management Team that covers: branding & marking compliance, internal & external communications, visibility & positioning products, maintaining knowledge repositories, promoting knowledge exchange and learning, design, production & distribution of SBC Communication materials. The CKM Specialist will strengthen the visibility of Project Connect to its key audiences. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute USAID Project Connect Communication and Knowledge Management plan, customizing communications approaches, messages & products based on the target audience.
- Regular support on photography, video, success story writing, social media and thought leadership blogs
- Review and approve media communique, editorial content and publications as required, in consultation with the Project Connect technical teams.
- Champion USAID branding and marking compliance within the consortium, as well as Jhpiego’s communications guidelines when required while working with project teams, consultants and other external vendors to ensure accurate production and delivery of audio-visual & printed materials.
- Provide comms oversight to build capacity in communications & knowledge management, and produce products such as leaflets, technical briefs that relay achievements, project status and best practices; this will include repackaging data for storytelling & other sources such as reports, fact sheets etc
- Regularly promote knowledge exchange and learning opportunities in collaboration with the central Jhpiego KM unit; e.g., coordinating Brown-Bag presentations at the country office, informing staff of applicable online discussion lists and communities of practice internal and external to Jhpiego (including collaborating partners)
- Linkages & capacity strengthening: Strengthen Jhpiego communications links and relations with key partners, including national and district-level governments, agencies, private sector partners, and other stakeholders in public health while leading in capacity strengthening for collaborating partners in writing and documentation, packaging and dissemination of project success stories and lessons learned, search strategies for locating knowledge resources; including external dissemination at Global and International conferences and to online bibliographic databases
- Documentation & dissemination of core technical themes: With the technical team, coordinate, lead the documentation and dissemination of core technical issues, strategies, lessons and its core technical areas and Community-based Services.
- Manage & oversee Jhpiego’s Project Connect’s share point page i.e. catalog, and enter Jhpiego-authored knowledge assets from the country office (e.g., training materials, presentations, tools, plans, and reports) in Jhpiego’s central electronic library.
- Support the design and development of Social & Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) packages including IEC messages and materials, as well as pre- testing of concepts/messages/materials with target audiences for distribution.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- At least 5 years’ experience in communications and knowledge management
- Previous experience in the health development sector working on USAID-funded programs preferred. Experience working with local partners is an added advantage;
- Advanced degree preferred in a communications-related field, marketing, or digital marketing; with skills in photography, video, design & social media;
- Excellent facilitation, oral and written communication skills;
- Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills in English and fluency in at least one national language (Setswana and/or Ikalanga) are required.
- Experience working on USAID or other large donor-funded projects is preferred.
