Position Summary:

McGill University School of Continuing Studies is committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Outreach Communication Assistant to support our efforts in engaging with Black communities in Montreal. The Outreach Communications Assistant will establish relationships and facilitate dialogues that improve the ability of the Organization and serve the needs and aspirations of the city’s Black communities.

Typical Functions:

  • Act as a liaison between the School of Continuing Studies and various Black communities and community organizations in Montreal. Develop and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, organizations, and individuals to foster trust and collaboration.

  • Organize activities tailored to the needs and interests of pointed communities. These initiatives may include workshops, presentations, informational sessions, or other similar events.

  • Collaborate with the communities to identify issues, concerns and opportunities and communicate discovered needs to the supervisor.

  • Use communication tools such as PowerPoint presentations, flyers, brochures, emails, and social media to effectively reach and engage with the priority audiences.

  • Collect feedback from individuals and community groups to help the Organization improve strategies, programs and services based on community needs and best practices.

  • The list of functions outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks which may be performed by an incumbent. For example, incumbents may be asked to perform some elements of Communications Assistant level “A” and/or “B” in addition to the above-listed functions.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
 

Strong understanding of the sociocultural dynamics, history, and issues facing Black communities in Montreal. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust across diverse audiences. Experience in community engagement, outreach, or advocacy roles is preferred, work within the Montreal Black community context is an asset. Experience in organized outreach initiatives and events is required. Ability to work under minimal supervision, autonomously and collaborate effectively within a team. Fluency in English and French is required, and proficiency in other languages spoken within the city’s Black communities is an asset. Recognized commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with a passion for education, social justice and community empowerment.
