The Division of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Preventive
Medicine, within the
Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a Community
Based Research Specialist who will work with a multi disciplinary research team
on community based efforts for a clinical trial underway at the University of
New Mexico (UNM) Southwest Clinical Trials Network node. UNM is proud to serve
as a node of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network
(CTN). The CTN provides an enterprise in which NIDA, treatment researchers, and
community-based service providers work toward new treatment options in
community-level clinical practice.

The Community Based Research Specialist will
assist faculty and research staff in recruitment and outreach with inpatients
and outpatients for enrollment and retention in clinical trials. Under
supervision, they will assist with planning, implementation, and daily
operations of clinical research in accordance with grant objectives. They will
be primarily responsible for recruitment and communication and outreach with
patients, as well as communicating with key figures at study recruitment sites.
This position requires travel to study recruitment sites in the Albuquerque
community, and may include some varied hours as part of communicating with
participants for study participation and retention. The Community Based
Research Specialist will also perform miscellaneous job-related duties as
assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver’s license is a requirement for this job.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with communicating
    with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with populations
    who may have substance use disorders
  • Experience with
    participating in the day to day operations of a research study
  • Experience working in or around
    medical settings
  • Experience with keeping track of
    participant incentives
