Consultancy – Labor Rights InitiativeThe is the ABA’s focal entity for critical human rights concerns in the United States and around the world. The ABA Center for Human Rights (the Center) works to promote and protect human rights worldwide by mobilizing lawyers to defend threatened advocates, protect vulnerable communities, and hold governments accountable under law.The is seeking a paid, full- or part-time remote consultant for the duration of January – June 2025 to support the Initiative’s cases in Ecuador and additional cases and campaigns as necessary. The Labor Rights Initiative works with unions in Ecuador on issues such as the promulgation of rules for industry-wide unions, blacklisting and retaliation against union activity, and the role of women in union leadership. The consultant will serve as a liaison between the Center and program partners in Ecuador and other countries and provide substantive legal support in ongoing initiatives.Responsibilities can include:

  • Provide substantive support and expertise to the ABA Center for Human Rights Labor Rights Initiative. Includes legal research, writing, and provision of technical assistance.
  • Conduct legal or other research and write memoranda, speeches, or articles.
  • Provide substantive advice, information, and make policy recommendations. Includes contact with government entities, unions, international organizations, and civil society.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and liaise with the Initiative’s partners.
  • Provide additional support for a range of duties relating to case strategy, management, advocacy, and other matters regarding the execution of case work.

Qualifications shall include:Law degree (JD, LLM or equivalent if non-US jurisdictions), and 1-2 years of legal experience.Fluency in Spanish and EnglishExcellent written and verbal communication skills.Previous experience with international labor rights and/or labor unions desired, particularly in Ecuador.How to Apply:Please attach the following documents in a single PDFStatement of interest detailing your experience or interest in labor rights and corporate accountability, your research and writing experience, and your strengths in relationships building and maintenance.
