How can you make a difference?

The Regional Human Resources Section, UNICEF’s East Asia and Pacific Regional Office is seeking an individual consultant to review, redesign and implement a regional mentorship programme in East Asia and the Pacific.  The consultant will support the management of the mentorship programme, develop training materials, and deliver regular virtual sessions throughout the programme. The consultancy also includes developing and piloting a reverse mentorship component of the regional programme.

Work assignment, Expected Deliverable and Delivery schedule: 

Work Assignment 1: Launch of the Regional Mentorship Programme consisting of the normal mentorship component and the pilot reverse mentorship component.

The selected consultant will develop an 8 months-long mentorship programme to start in May 2024, with two components: conventional mentorship and reserve mentorship. The conventional mentorship component will be based on the outcomes from the 2023 mentorship programme. Previous materials will be provided as reference, and modifications should be made to enhance the existing programme. The mentor and mentee orientation will be delivered virtually by the consultant jointly with UNICEF staff. For the pilot reverse mentorship component, the consultant is expected to create the materials, based on some reference documents available elsewhere inside and outside the organization.

The consultant will also draft communication and campaign materials to share among all staff in the region, highlighting the objectives of the programme, expected commitment, and benefits of the components. The consultant will also support in matching process of mentors and mentees and where required, outreach for identification of qualified mentors. The consultant will also be expected to establish a pool of mentors (both internal and external), including managing the recruitment of external mentors (likely retirees). The consultant will also design and deliver orientation sessions for mentees and mentors to effectively onboard them. Both sessions will be around one hour to an hour and a half long.

Expected deliverable 1:  Launch of the Regional Mentorship Programme consisting of the normal mentorship component and the pilot reverse mentorship component.

The deliverables and documentation for this phase will include but be not limited to:

o Marketing materials (call for participation as mentors and mentees)

o Criteria for being a mentor and a mentees

o Online application forms established and tested

o Matching completed of mentors and mentees

o Establishment of a pool of external mentors

o Overall schedule and system for monitoring progress

o Orientation sessions for mentees and mentors

Estimated working days:  18 calendar days of work.

Work Assignment 2: Management of 8 monthly sessions from May to December 2024

The consultant will conduct monthly sessions on various topics related to mentoring between May and December 2024. The consultant will identify topics for the monthly discussions in collaboration with the supervisor of the contract and send out outlook invites to the selected participants. The consultant will also maintain an AGORA Page (learning management site) for the Regional Mentorship Programme and will troubleshoot where necessary. It is envisioned that these monthly sessions will be done together for both components of the Programme.

Expected deliverable 2:  Monthly sessions from May to December 2024

The documentation for the sessions will include but not limited to:

o Monthly webinars for mentors and mentees (visual PPT with speaker’s script)

o Monthly emails and calendar invites

o Planning form for mentors and mentees to guide them on potential topics to discuss during their monthly meetings

Estimated working days:  Total of 21 calendar days of work.

Work Assignment 3: Closure of the 2024 Mentorship Cohort

The consultant will bring the 2024 mentorship cohort to a close through final presentation for the mentors and mentees and provide guidance on how to close off the relationship in a healthy way. (The content should complement the final webinar content to be delivered to both mentees and mentors). It is expected that there be separate sessions for the conventional mentorship component and the pilot reverse mentorship component. The consultant will also conduct a final survey among the participants, prepare a final report and will submit it for approval of the supervisor before 15th of December 2024. The final report shall include:

In addition to having a final meeting, the final report shall include:

o As annex, all the relevant PPTs and other materials used in the programme;

o Detailed assessment of the programme, lessons learned and recommendation for way forward;

o Formative and summative evaluations (programme evaluations exist to be built upon) this can be through survey results or other methods used for collection of feedback from the participants to be incorporated into next year’s mentorship programme

Duration of Contract:  15 March 2024 – 31 December 2024

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

1) Bachelor’s Degree sociology, psychology, human resources, education or a related field

2) At least 5 years of prior experience in instructional design including work samples that demonstrate both online and virtual development experience.

3) At least 2 years of verifiable prior experience in mentorship programme design and delivery. Prior experience with UN will be an asset.

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract.
